Arthur Peter Mutharika maintains a commanding lead in Malawi's presidential election with official tallies from the Electoral Commission showing 65.6 percent support. The Democratic Progressive Party candidate secured 2,022,879 votes from 24 electoral councils that were counted. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party trails significantly with 732,575 votes representing 23.8 percent. Dalitso Kabambe from the United Transformation Movement garnered 146,664 votes at 4.8 percent. Other candidates collectively received 180,885 votes, accounting for 5.9 percent of the total.
