Crime has skyrocketed across Bangladesh during the first five months of this year. Police data shows murder cases jumped from 1,265 to 1,587 compared to last year. Armed robberies more than doubled from 147 to 318 cases. Regular robberies climbed from 585 to 821 incidents. Crimes against women and children rose from 7,313 to 9,100 cases.
Kidnappers struck 436 times compared to just 250 cases last year. Burglars hit 1,109 homes versus 1,104 during the same period before. Theft was the only crime that dropped slightly from 3,972 to 3,816 cases. Human Rights Support Society counted 361 rape victims between January and May.
