Sugar company bosses decided to hand out huge cash bonuses to thousands of farmers across Masindi district. Kinyara Sugar Limited promised to deliver 17 billion shillings worth of extra payments during the next few weeks. The money goes to growers who sold their crops at lower prices during the past farming season. Company officials met with farmer representatives to hammer out the final deal last month. Everyone agreed the fair price should be 131,500 shillings per metric ton.
