Malawi Warned of Potential Political Tensions Like Zambia's
Zambia's former leader Edgar Lungu will rest in South Africa after weeks of fighting with his country's government. His family chose a private ceremony there instead of dealing with officials at home. The dead president and current leader Hakainde Hichilema never got along well. Lungu had put Hichilema in jail before losing power in 2021. The family wanted to keep Hichilema away from funeral plans because of their bad history. A Malawi expert named Wonderful Mkhutche thinks similar problems could happen here. He says current and past presidents often make their fights personal instead of keeping things professional. Leaders need to treat each other with respect even when they disagree about politics. Mkhutche worries that personal...

DPP Stands Firm on Leadership Roles Ahead of 2025 Elections
The Democratic Progressive Party told voters it will keep the top two jobs for its members. Shadreck Namalomba speaks for the party and shared this news on Facebook. He said other groups have wrong ideas about how partnerships work. The party wants both the president and running mate spots for DPP people. Namalomba cleared up confusion about what roles partners can take. Malawi's Constitution lets different parties work together during elections. The document creates a special job called second vice president for partner groups. Namalomba thinks it makes no sense for outside leaders to demand the first vice president role. He asked if those leaders would have to shut down their parties to take that job. The Constitution already gives...
