Sony reports PS5 has reached 77.8 million units sold worldwide. The company shipped just 2.8 million consoles last quarter, down from 4.5 million during the same period last year. Total sales fell from 20.8 million units in fiscal year 2023 to 18.5 million in 2024. Sony expects hardware sales will continue to fall next fiscal year.
Game sales tell a different story, with overall numbers rising from 286.4 million to 303.3 million units across PS4 and PS5. Most growth came from third-party titles, as first-party game sales actually decreased from 39.7 million to 28.9 million units.
