Angeline Murimirwa could not afford school despite her top grades in rural Zimbabwe during the 1990s. CAMFED stepped in with money for her classes and housing, along with hundreds of other girls nationwide. She often ate meals, feeling guilty about her family possibly going hungry.
Angeline runs CAMFED today, helping millions of girls attend school across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. These students might become future leaders just like her. Girls with education create healthy, strong communities everywhere. But many places have growing obstacles keeping girls from learning and choosing their paths. Angeline fights these problems better than almost anyone, which helped her win the 2024 Africa Education Medal.
