Harare Chaos as Bedbugs from Secondhand Clothes Spread
Bed bugs have started attacking Harare residents. Officials blame second-hand clothes for the recent bug outbreak. The pests first appeared at Matererini flats about two weeks ago. People who visit affected areas bring the bugs home with them, and poor living conditions make the problem worse. The bugs have moved beyond flats into other crowded neighborhoods like Mabvuku, Kuwadzana, and Budiriro. The Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Economy Association wants city leaders to spray chemicals right away. They are asking clothing sellers to stop their business until the crisis ends. Public buses need daily cleaning to kill the bugs that hide inside. Combined Harare Residents Association points to bad housing as the main cause. Two years ago...
Zimbabwe Pulls Off Legal Bond Heist to Own KMH
Zimbabwe's government gained complete control of Kuvimba Mining House through its sovereign wealth fund. Mutapa Investment Fund bought the remaining 35 percent stake for $1.9 billion using Treasury Bonds that mature over ten years. The bonds serve as a loan to Mutapa with a three-year grace period. No cash changed hands in this deal. The transaction lets the government fully control Zimbabwe's largest mining company without immediate payment. Kuvimba Mining House holds valuable assets like Freda Rebecca Gold Mine, Shamva Gold Mine, Jena Mines, Sandawana lithium mine, Zimbabwe Alloys chrome operations, Great Dyke Investments platinum project, and Bindura Nickel Corporation. Independent advisors valued the entire company at $3.2 billion...
ZACC Scores Flawless Win Over Corruption Cases
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission won every court case it handed to prosecutors this year. Since January, they have dealt with 183 corruption reports, most from Harare, with 158 cases. Gweru reported 11 cases, Mutare had nine, Mashonaland Central recorded three, and Mashonaland East logged just two. No cases came from Bulawayo or Masvingo because people there might not know about the local ZACC offices. Many people from areas with ZACC offices still travel to file reports in Harare instead. Fraud topped the list with 45 cases, followed by abuse of office with 21. Courts finished trials for 12 of the 99 cases ZACC sent to the National Prosecuting Authority. All 12 ended with guilty verdicts, giving ZACC a perfect conviction...
Rusape Heist Horror as Robbers Steal Tobacco
Eight robbers attacked the Voedsel Tobacco International Auction Floors in Rusape last Sunday night. They overpowered two security guards before stealing numerous tobacco bales worth thousands of dollars. The guards, Weston Jumbe and Daniel Sadondo, were tied up with shoelaces and covered with plastic sheeting during the heist. Robbers loaded the stolen tobacco into their vehicle and escaped. Police confirmed the incident and said no arrests have been made. The robbery happened on April 20 when the guards were patrolling the premises. Three people with machetes grabbed Jumbe, tied his hands and legs, and took his phone. Five others attacked Sadondo, hit him with a machete, tied him up, and stuffed cloth in his mouth when he screamed...
HIV Drug Panic Grips Zimbabwe as Meds Get Hoarded
Some people with HIV started stockpiling their medicines because they worry about shortages after funding cuts. Even though officials say there are enough drugs, patients hoard medication, which might cause fake shortages at city health centers. The Trump administration froze funding that could cost about $522 million. Many groups, health workers, and clinics already feel the impact as everyone waits for the 90-day review to end on April 19. Public hospitals offer free antiretroviral therapy, but funding uncertainty makes patients panic despite Zimbabwe having its AIDS Levy. This levy, managed by the National AIDS Council, takes 3% from taxable income and company profits. It raised $38.6 million in 2014, with over half going to buy...

Police caught two border officers taking bribes at Beitbridge during Easter weekend. The officials accepted money to let a taxi with undocumented migrants enter South Africa. Border Management Authority executives spotted the suspicious activity on camera. Law enforcement stopped the vehicle carrying 18 passengers, five of whom were without proper documents. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Mmemme Mogotsi said these arrests started their effort to clean up border operations. Officials called detectives, the Anti-Corruption Unit, and the Criminal Record Centre after noticing the illegal transaction. The exchange...

Witch Feud in Chimanimani Solved With Goats and Cows
A woman in Chimanimani must pay four cattle and six goats after she called her brother's wife a witch. Maria Manjongoma spent years accusing Tryphine Mucharira of witchcraft before Chief Saurombe stepped in. Traditional healers checked and found Mucharira innocent of all claims. The father of the accused woman asked for payment to fix his daughter's damaged name. He said she faced public shame after the story spread through newspapers and videos. The case first came to court in February because of a family fight. Manjongoma told people that Mucharira ate private body parts and used footprint soil for spells. Mucharira explained she dealt with these harsh words for 14 years since her marriage. Things became worse when Manjongoma took...
