Harare and Bulawayo get new radiotherapy machines soon
Officials finished checking all offers for new cancer treatment machines at main hospitals in Harare with Bulawayo. They plan to send papers to the national buying office this week for final approval. The government will spend $30 million from sugar taxes started in 2023 to buy modern radiation therapy equipment for public healthcare. Health Ministry leader Dr Aspect Maunganidze said they completed an important step in the buying process. After the special committee reviews everything for fairness, contracts can be signed. The new machines will go to Parirenyatwa Hospital with Mpilo Central Hospital. Older equipment from these places will move to smaller hospitals in Gweru with Mutare. This helps spread cancer care to more areas across...
Former death row inmates get fresh life terms
Courts gave new sentences to twelve people who once faced for death penalty after Zimbabwe stopped capital punishment. Judges must review cases for 39 prisoners because the laws have changed. Bernard Mucheka received four life sentences instead of death for killing his ex-girlfriend Lorraine Mtetwa with her three daughters. He burned their house with petrol after she ended their relationship when she learned he was married. The fire happened in Epworth in April 2013. Mtetwa died three days later at the hospital. Her daughters, Colleta, Shamiso, and Rutendo, also died from burns. Teacher Bernard Chivenga got life in prison for raping his student aged 14 before killing her to hide evidence. Brothers Freddy Dube with Thinkwell Moyo both...

The head doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital must go to court for Prosper Vanhuvaone's trial. This man pretended to be a real doctor for almost two years. The court asked hospital officials many times to explain what happened. Dr. Narcisius Dzvanga will finally tell the judge how this fake doctor worked inside the hospital without anyone stopping him. Vanhuvaone called himself Prosper Mpofu when he saw patients at both Mpilo Hospital. He gave them medicine he had no right to prescribe. He even worked at United Bulawayo Hospitals. Police charged him with fraud because he lied to make money. The law says this breaks Section 136 of the Criminal Law Act. The trial continues on April 24 with Magistrate Eva Matura in charge. Vanhuvaone faces...
Church tricks council with fake hall receipts
Bulawayo City Council plans to sue Spirit Embassy Ministries for cheating them out of more than $2,000. The church used the same receipts many times to book the Large City Hall without paying proper fees. They worked with a council worker named Busani Nyoni, who has disappeared. City auditors found that church representative Somerai Charamba used four receipts five different times between 2024 and 2025. Auditors also found problems with hall bookings from 2023. Charamba told officials he knew the correct booking process but made a special deal with Nyoni instead. He gave Nyoni cash payments under the table. Two days later, one receipt for $415 from June 21, 2024, was reused without being checked or recorded properly. Security officer...
Docs and nurses selling meds on the side in Zimbabwe
Hospital staff in Zimbabwe steal medicine meant for public health facilities. Nurses also bring drugs from Zambia to sell to patients who need them. This theft involves many workers, from cleaning staff to doctors. These stolen medicines end up with street sellers who push addictive drugs. Transparency International Zimbabwe found this happening in their recent report. Low pay, poor tracking systems, and a high demand for scarce medicine drive this corruption. National offices use computers to track medicine, but local clinics use paper records that fail. Street sellers told researchers they get medicines directly from health workers, who sometimes use others to hide their involvement. They sell antibiotics, pain relievers, allergy...

He demands that President Mnangagwa step down because of growing problems with politics and money in Zimbabwe. Police are watching carefully as more people plan to join these protests. The government acts like nothing will happen, but officials seem worried because...
