POTRAZ pushes phone registration to curb cybercrime
Zimbabwe phone bosses want all cell phones signed up for safety reasons. POTRAZ asks the government to make everyone list their phones with the state. This would help stop bad people from using phones to commit crimes. Under this new plan, all SIM card users must link their phones to their names. Engineer Hasha Myambo from POTRAZ talked about making a big list of all the phones in the country. He thinks this phone list will work with the SIM card list they already have. Both lists together will make it harder for thieves to use stolen phones. The system can block lost phones from working on any networks in Zimbabwe. Myambo said people stay at risk without this phone tracking system. More Zimbabweans use phones for money and shopping...
Rand Drops Hard as Budget Fears and Tariffs Bite
The South African rand hit rock bottom yesterday against the British pound. The rand fell to R25.04 per pound as money people worried about South African tax plans and trade problems. Everything started going wrong when lawmakers passed a new Budget on April 2. Finance boss Enoch Godongwana pushed for higher taxes, which barely passed with 194 votes beating 182 votes against it. Markets freaked out because they feared the team-up government might break apart soon. People rushed to sell South African stuff fast, causing the biggest market crash in five years on April 3. The situation got worse when Donald Trump slapped huge taxes on South African goods two days later. These new 31% fees hurt trade with America, which buys loads of South...
Court orders fixes for Zimbabwe jails
The High Court in Mutare just pushed for better jail buildings across Zimbabwe. Judge Siziba made this big call after Michael Mundandishe took his bad jail story to court. Mundandishe spent time locked up at fifty years old because he held a meeting without permission. The awful places where guards kept him broke basic human rights rules under Zimbabwe law. His lawyer from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights helped bring these facts to light. Mundandishe told the court about gross toilet problems all prisoners shared. He had no place to wash up except open spaces where everyone could see him. These nasty living spots failed to keep basic human respect. Judge Siziba agreed with what Mundandishe said about these awful conditions. The judge...

Callable Bond Lets Firms Pay Off Debt Early
Companies can take back some bonds before their end date. These "callable bonds" let businesses pay off debt early. When market rates drop, companies often call their bonds, which helps them borrow again at cheaper rates. Because of this risk to buyers, these bonds usually pay higher interest rates compared to regular bonds. Callable bonds work as debt papers where the company keeps the right to return your money early. Many businesses create bonds to grow or clear old loans. Smart companies make their bonds callable when they think rates might fall later. The paperwork always shows exactly when they can take back the bond. Most callable bonds pay back a bit more than face value, with earlier calls paying the highest premiums. Several...
Sharpe Ratio Makes Sense of Risk and Reward
The Sharpe ratio tells you how well an investment pays for its shakiness. When returns jump very high, they might just show more risk instead of smart investing. William Sharpe created this math tool back in 1966 from his work on pricing assets. He later won a big prize for his ideas in 1990. You figure this number by taking what you earned above safe investments, like treasury bonds. Next, you divide that by how much your returns bounced around. This bouncing shows risk. When comparing similar funds, higher Sharpe numbers look better. The math works for past results or future guesses about how investments might do. The formula needs three things. First, grab your total returns. Second, subtract what you could have made from risk-free...
