Ex-employee defrauds ACCESS Forex in ghost remittance scam
A worker at ACCESS Forex stole money through fake money transfers, causing the company to lose over $322,000 US dollars plus 650,000 South African rand. Grace Makozho worked at this money transfer business when she made up pretend accounts to steal cash. She went before a judge named Mr. Donald Ndirowei in Harare on Monday because of these actions. The court kept her locked up until today, when they will decide about letting her pay for release. The prosecutor, Mr. Lancelot Mutsokoti, said she did this bad stuff back in April 2023. Makozho used another worker's login details to sneak into the company's computer system. She sent cash from ACCESS Forex in South Africa to 91 different people in Zimbabwe. Two men named Dickson Gweshe and...
NRZ gets no gains from 20 year Landela deal
The Zimbabwe train company hasn't earned any cash from its deal with Landela Safari Adventures for the Landela Complex since they started working together back in 1998. Parliament members checking public assets just found this out. Surprisingly, the two companies never held a single meeting in more than twenty years. Mr. Charlton Hwende leads this checking group that travels around the country looking at government-owned things. The group visited several train company properties in Victoria Falls last Saturday. This marks the second time Parliament members came to Victoria Falls to look at train company buildings. During their first visit, they learned the train company lost lots of money because they didn't watch their buildings...
State finishes case against Zinyengere for armed escape
The government finished sharing all the proof against Luke Zinyengere yesterday. He ran away from jail with a gun someone had sneaked to him at court. Four people told the judge they saw him carrying this weapon during his escape. Mr. Loveti Muringwa brought these witnesses to court. Zinyengere says he did leave without permission but never had any gun. Prison guard Mr. Fungai Nyanzunda described how Zinyengere escaped when they opened the cell doors. Prisoners needed to board a truck that day. Nyanzunda caught the other runner, Tafadzwa Richard Marondera, after both men jumped over the court fence. He stepped on Marondera's neck to keep him down. That's when Zinyengere came back toward him with a weapon pointed his way. Nyanzunda...
CAPS United boss challenges coach and team to bounce back
CAPS United boss Farai Jere told coach Lloyd Chitembwe they must do better after fans showed anger at Rufaro last Sunday. The team lost 1-2 against Ngezi Platinum Stars, making it three defeats in five games. Jere watched this happen from the stands, feeling upset about how badly things had started. He went to talk with everyone at practice the next day. The players heard clearly that they needed to turn things around fast. Jere reminded the team about what CAPS United stands for—big wins and a proud history. Many new players may not know how much fans expect from this famous club. He called these first matches some of their worst ever, pushing them near the bottom of the standings after just five games. Supporters booed coach...
Exam cheaters face long jail terms under new rules
People who leak test papers in Zimbabwe might spend nine years behind bars. Schools caught doing this will lose permission to run exams and shut down completely. The government just approved these tough rules yesterday to stop cheating. Anyone who pretends to be someone else during tests faces jail time as well. These changes come from the Zimbabwe School Examination Amendment Bill, which aims to improve the exam system. The cabinet agreed to these new rules during their meeting in Harare. Dr. Jenfan Muswere told reporters that these changes address many problems in schools across the country. The bill helps fix issues like test leaks, wrong student registrations, and cheating at test centers. It gives the exam board more power to...
Gold Surge Lifts Zimbabwe Output by Small Miners
Zimbabwe just had a huge gold rush! Gold makers brought in 8,496 kilos during early 2025, beating last year by over 40 percent, when they only made 6,044 kilos. The small miners did most of the work, handing over 5,770 kilos all by themselves. Big companies lagged behind, with just 2,725 kilos during these three months. Fidelity Gold Refineries shared these numbers, showing how much the little guys matter. The big mining companies spend lots of money on fancy equipment but still make less gold. Small miners use basic tools but somehow dig up most of the yellow metal. Many reasons explain this success story. More people have started small mining jobs recently. These miners formed better groups to work together. The government helped...
Mbare Market Rises From Ashes in Swift Gov Response
A huge fire burned down the Mbare Musika market last October. Many traders lost their goods and places to sell. President Mnangagwa quickly declared the area a disaster. This allowed the national government to step in quickly to help, even though city officials usually handle markets. The plan aimed to rebuild something much better than what burned down. The government saw a chance to create a modern three-floor market at the main spot. But traders needed places to sell right away. Officials found land nearby for a quick fix. They built a good structure very fast. President Mnangagwa will open this building soon. Though called "temporary," it stands as a solid permanent building. It fits thousands of sellers but stays smaller than the...
Cabinet okays internet scheme to reach every ward
The government plans to bring fast Internet to every corner of Zimbabwe. Yesterday, leaders agreed on a new plan called the Presidential Internet Scheme. They want all 2,400 areas across the country to have good Internet access. Dr. Jenfan Muswere shared this news with reporters after a meeting in Harare. This big project supports the country's push toward more digital services. The internet will reach schools, police stations, health centers, farm offices, courts, and many other places. Teams will focus first on remote parts where people cannot connect today. They will use modern space satellites and fiber cables to make sure everyone can join the digital world. The project starts next June and continues until 2030. Officials expect...
Youth Service grads set for jobs at state institutions
More than 1,000 young people who finished their training with the Youth Service in Zimbabwe Program will start jobs soon. These jobs come from many places, like government offices across the country. This news came from a top leader at a meeting yesterday. President Mnangagwa began this program last year in Murehwa. The program teaches young adults important skills for six months. After the meeting, Dr. Jenfan Muswere shared how well the program works. He said graduates find spots in schools, public jobs, police forces, army units, plus big projects. These projects include fixing roads, drilling wells for water, plus setting up solar power systems. Many other graduates chose to learn even more at skill centers around Zimbabwe. The...
