Fake vehicle registry agents face fraud charges
Police caught two men who faked working at the car office. Noah Chimulambe and Ernest Musandiriri faced a judge in Harare last Saturday. Samuel Banda, who works at Kaifeng Private Limited as a shopkeeper, reported them. The pair made fake papers for a Mazda Demio car with license plate ABE2028. Patrick Chiutsi bought this Mazda from Victor Masawi back in November. He checked his car fees at Epworth Post Office and found he owed $475. He never looked up who actually owned the car. The seller never gave him any car papers. The car also lacked some license plates when he bought it. Chiutsi later swapped cars with Banda in December. He gave Banda his other car plus $600 cash. They agreed his Mazda MPV was worth $700. Chiutsi also paid the...
Harare tackles bedbugs in overcrowded Mbare
Bedbugs have spread across Mbare, a crowded part of Harare. City officials confirmed the bugs exist there. They planned a big cleanup that starts today. Pest teams will spray chemicals at houses where these tiny bugs live. The spraying begins at Matererini and Matapi Flats first thing this morning. These old apartment blocks house many people in small spaces. The city says these bugs thrive where many people live close together. Bad trash pickup and dirty areas help bedbugs multiply fast. Stanley Gama from Harare City asked everyone living there to help when spray teams arrived. He wants all doors open early morning. The city plans to teach people about keeping bugs away after they finish spraying. They believe everyone must learn how...
Listed Firms Eye Growth With Steady Economy
Companies on the Zimbabwe stock markets feel good about making more money this year. They believe they can grow bigger as the country makes more money. These businesses trade on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and Victoria Falls Stock Exchange. Both markets use US dollars for all trades. Many firms plan to spend less money running their businesses but make more cash from sales. Masimba Holdings thinks the government will help make business better. They build things across the country. The group leader says they have many jobs lined up, mainly fixing roads. Money issues made me work hard last year. Not enough cash flowed through markets, which caused problems paying bills. The building company expects to earn more money and grow next year...
Youth Get Tractors to Modernize Local Farming
Young farmers across Matabeleland are starting to pick up their farm tractors today. The national government gave seven machines to each province through its Youth Agriculture Empowerment Programme. These tractors will help young people farm better and grow more food. President Mnangagwa started this plan to make farming more modern. Every district in both North and South Matabeleland will receive one tractor. Moses Langa from the Zanu-PF Youth League thanked the government for these machines. He said the tractors would make farming much easier for young people. Many youths raise cattle and need machines to make hay for their animals. The President paid half the cost of each tractor himself. Empower Bank helped set up the program for...
Govt pushes sunflower farming to trim oil import bill
Zimbabwe wants farmers to grow more sunflowers across the country. They spend over $200 million each year buying cooking oil from other countries. Instead of buying it, they hope to make their own. Sunflower oil ranks just below olive oil for health benefits. Right at home, Zimbabwe makes oil from soya beans and cotton seeds, but they need more crops to feed their mills. The country buys between 55,000 and 65,000 tons of sunflower oil from South Africa yearly, which costs between $240 million and $300 million. Professor Obert Jiri, who works as the Permanent Secretary for the Department of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, talked about this during a farm event in Matabeleland North Province. He thinks farmers...
Congo mineral deal is a risky bet for US security
The Congo has asked the Trump team for a big trade deal. They want US troops to help them with security problems. In return, they would let US companies dig up their valuable minerals. This deal might look good at first glance, but it could lead America into another messy foreign fight. We should fix our friendship with Canada instead. They have many of the minerals we need. We can work with the Congolese on business deals and talk to them as friends. We don't need to send soldiers there. This approach keeps us safer and still gets us the minerals. America needs special rocks and metals for our modern life. We use them in phones, cars, wind turbines, and military gear. Right now, China controls most of these materials. We want to find...
Bulawayo Ambulance Woes Push Residents to Private Rides
Bulawayo runs just seven working ambulances when thirty would help everyone properly. Most people call private services because city ambulances never show up fast enough. These private rides cost over $30 compared to city ones at $11. Many families ask neighbors with cars to rush sick people to hospitals during emergencies. The city needs more emergency vehicles for all 28 areas. Mrs. Zhou from city hall tells us they fixed two old ambulances to reach seven. Five have great life-saving tools, but those two old ones carry only stable patients. She admits they send people to private services when busy, though many refuse this option. They tried buying four more last year but failed when sellers backed out. Minister Judith Ncube traveled...
Bulawayo water crisis spawns barons and laundry maids
Water problems hit Bulawayo hard. People who control water spots make money in western neighborhoods. These water bosses ask for $2 to fill 100 liters. Many homes have gone dry water for weeks on end. City areas suffer because pumps break down and need parts from other countries. Families must buy clean water in bottles just to drink safely. Ladies who wash clothes find work at these water points. They clean dirty clothes for cash, as most houses lack running water. The city provides less than half the normal water each day. Instead of 90 million liters, they pump only 45 million. This hurts everyone in town, especially those who live on higher ground where water pressure stays very low. The Criterion tank feeds other tanks but runs...
