GMB sticks with 450 per tonne for a bumper wheat crop
Zimbabwe keeps wheat prices the same as last year at $450 for each ton. Farmers feel happy because they can make good money with these prices. The government wants our country to grow much more wheat than we need. They plan for farmers to plant wheat on 120,000 hectares of land during winter. This should give us about 600,000 tons of wheat when harvested. Our country only needs 360,000 tons each year to feed everyone. Last year, farmers planted wheat on almost 120,000 hectares and grew 562,591 tons. They also planted barley on 6,697 hectares, which produced 36,120 tons. The government hopes these big harvests will help us stop buying wheat from other countries and strengthen our economy. Shadreck Makombe leads the Zimbabwe Commercial...
Queen Sakhile Dube says just smile for Miss Universe Zimbabwe
The clock ticks down with just 40 days left before someone new takes the Miss Universe Zimbabwe crown. Current queen, Sakhile Dube, recently shared wisdom for women thinking about joining the contest. She watched hopefuls perform last Saturday when she helped judge tryouts in Bulawayo, saying she likes what she sees from candidates. This tall 28-year-old beauty who won huge applause at last year's final show tells possible contestants they must smile more than anything else. She believes every woman should show her special qualities with total confidence when stepping onto the pageant stage. Dube strongly encourages models to stay natural rather than copy what they watch on screens or what previous winners did before them. Dube speaks...
Harare battles cash crunch in political tussle
Since 2017, President Mnangagwa from Zimbabwe has kept looking into how the opposition runs Harare city. The Zanu-PF national leaders have fought with the Citizens' Coalition for Change over who controls the capital for more than ten years. This fight causes money problems because the national government holds back cash and refuses to help with big projects. Zimbabwe gives very little money to local areas - just 4% compared to much more in nearby countries like Zambia, Angola, and South Africa. Other African countries see their national and local governments work together pretty well. Zimbabwe does not share this friendly approach. The law says local areas should have power, but Zanu-PF wants control instead. They pretend to give...

Somali president lands in Uganda to team up on terror
Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud just flew to Uganda for a work trip. He wants to build better ties with Uganda and team up against terror groups back home. The Somali office shared on Saturday that Mohamud plans to meet with President Yoweri Museveni. They will talk about fighting what they call "Kharijite terrorists" together. Mohamud has visited Uganda twice in just two months. His last trip happened in February when he met with Museveni for important security talks. Uganda helps Somalia a lot with military support. They send soldiers as part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia, known as ATMIS for short. These troops fight against al Shabab, a dangerous terror group that causes many problems in Somalia. The...
Kiir shows off his pick as Museveni visits Juba
President Kiir showed off his chosen replacement, Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel, to Ugandan President Museveni during a visit to Juba on Thursday. The meeting included many top officials - Uganda brought defense minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, foreign affairs minister Malimba John, security advisor Proscovia Nalweyiso, and their ambassador Ronnie Balya. The two presidents first talked privately with just a few key people present. Kiir kept his ministers for presidential affairs, foreign affairs, and defense close by during these talks. The wealthy Bol...
AU Panel Denied Meeting With Machar in Juba
The African Union sent a peace team to Juba on Friday morning, but they couldn't see First Vice President Riek Machar on Friday morning. Machar leads the SPLA-IO rebel group and signed the shaky 2018 peace deal. The team came under former Burundian President Domitien Ndayizeye. They planned to talk with Machar, but something stopped them. The team told the UN mission they wanted to meet everyone involved in the conflict. The peace team said in their letter that they would meet President Salva Kiir and talk to all key people. This included vice presidents, peace agreement groups, election officials, army officers, and regional partners. They have already met with UN rep Nicholas Haysom and President Kiir. It seems nobody can visit...
KCCA panel calls ministry out for wasting Kiteezi cash
The KCCA City Executive Committee just told everyone how the Kampala Ministry wasted money meant for helping disaster victims. They spent 2.5 billion shillings on politics instead of helping people hurt by the Kiteezi trash hill collapse. KCCA leaders shared this news with the Authority last Thursday. They feel angry about how city managers handled money. The report shows big problems with both KCCA workers and the Kampala Ministry itself. Money for helping people went somewhere else entirely. The Ministry also grabbed $18 million from World Bank loans that should have fixed water drainage issues across Kampala. The City Executive Committee feels upset about this cash grab. They said the Ministry claimed these millions just for...
Gulu Council OKs 2025 Budget and Eyes Big Plans
Gulu District Council voted today for a money plan of 30 billion shillings they will use next year. Hon. Vicky Atim, the council's money person, spoke about this plan. Schools and sports will take the biggest share, with 10 billion shillings going their way. Health needs around 6 billion shillings, and offices must run on 5 billion shillings. Farms and markets asked for 3 billion shillings from the total amount. The majority of cash flows from government program money, reaching almost 21 billion shillings. Free-use funds bring another 6 billion to the table. Extra government money adds 1.5 billion more to district pockets. Vicky talked about what the leaders discussed earlier. She said local chiefs must help collect taxes better. The...
