Attorney General Initiates Inquest Into Bora Colley Death
The Edward Francis Small Centre for Rights and Justice (EFSCRJ) is happy with the attorney general's choice to look into how Bora Colley died. They saw the Gambia Armed Forces post about it on their Facebook page on March 10. Bora Colley used to be in the military and was part of former dictator Yaya Jammeh's notorious Jungler death squad. He passed away on March 9, 2025. The EFSCRJ thinks it's a good move for the attorney general to ask for a coroner's inquest based on Section 11 of the Coroner's Act. They want the full report from the inquiry to be available for everyone to see. They plan to keep an eye on how the inquiry goes. The Gambia Armed Forces have held Bora Colley since August 9, 2024. He was caught at his house in the...

Jaiteh Says Leaders Must Answer for National Interests
Yusupha Jaiteh, a writer from the Gambia, has again said that people should question leaders, especially presidents if they aren't doing what's best for the country. Mr. Jaiteh had already told The Voice that any religious leader or politician who tells Muslims and non-Muslims to support and vote for a leader who isn't good at their job is doing something very wrong. He said it's not right to teach that Islam tells people to follow their leaders without explaining when they should be followed. Mr. Jaiteh also thinks it's wrong to support, campaign for, or vote for a leader who isn't fit to lead. Karafa Sonko, who runs the UDP's campaign, agrees with Mr. Jaiteh. He says presidents need to be challenged when they make bad choices for...

Banjul Mayor Criticizes Vote Denial for Gambian Diaspora
Banjul's mayor blasted the National Assembly for stopping diaspora voting rights in the Election Bill. Twenty-five lawmakers, mostly from the ruling National People's Party and its friends, blocked the measure. This made many folks mad, especially Gambians living abroad and people against the current government. Critics claim this keeps important economic contributors from having any political voice during elections. Government officials tried defending themselves for legal reasons. Attorney General Dawda Jallow claimed they needed a special voting district for overseas Gambians, requiring changes to the constitution first. Many people see these excuses as just ways to keep Gambians abroad away from influencing politics back home. The...
