ZRA launches five-year plan to boost hydro power
The Zambezi River Authority recently started a new five-year plan to manage Africa's fourth-longest river more effectively. This strategy follows the completion of repairs to the plunge pool that will extend the life of the Kariba Dam Wall. The Zambezi flows through eight different countries and supports farming, tourism, water systems, wildlife, and many local communities. Officials believe they can harness much more power from this important waterway. Zambian Energy Minister Makozo Chikote stressed the need to develop more hydroelectric projects along the river. Dr. Gloria Magombo, who serves as board chairperson for ZRA and is the Permanent Secretary for Zimbabwe's Energy Ministry, delivered his message. Both Zimbabwe and Zambia...
Rural Development 8.0 Sparks Hope in Zimbabwe Countryside
Zimbabwe has started its Rural Development 8.0 plan, bringing fresh hope to country areas. Farmers expect better food supplies, higher earnings, and more jobs from this new program. The government aims to solve major problems faced by rural people, especially food shortages and limited access to farming supplies. Many families struggle with basic needs, but this program promises real changes to their daily lives. Officials plan to reach 3.5 million households each year through the Presidential Climate-Proofed Input Scheme. They have funded new dams, fish ponds, water holes, and irrigation systems across many districts. These improvements help farmers deal with changing weather patterns and unpredictable rainfall. The Agriculture...

Mnangagwa to reopen burned Mbare Market in two weeks
President Mnangagwa will open the rebuilt Mbare Market very soon. A big fire burned this market last November. The president wants to create many new safe markets across Zimbabwe. Local Government Minister Daniel Garwe told senators about these plans on Thursday. The fire at Mbare destroyed goods worth millions of dollars. President Mnangagwa then asked the Ministry to make a plan for new markets everywhere. The Cabinet liked this idea right away. They saw Mbare as an urgent case and the first step of a bigger plan. After Mbare, the next market will be built at Glen View Area 8. Many carpenters lost their workshops to fire there. Then, new markets will appear at Sakubva in Mutare, Kwekwe, and many other places. Even small rural areas...
Museveni sets deadline for steel plant plans
President Museveni has set a two-month deadline for Janet Museveni's education committee to complete plans for a steel factory project. The factory aims to process the large iron ore deposits found across the Ankole-Kigezi areas, especially those located in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro, and Rubanda districts. The government stopped allowing raw iron ore exports last year as part of its push to create more processing jobs within Uganda. This multi-billion project represents a major step toward building local industrial capacity. The President directed the committee to coordinate with potential investors when choosing the factory location. He described the initiative as a regional approach designed to turn local resources into economic...
Harare Council Considers Reviving Ward Fund for Basic Services
Harare City Council plans to bring back the ward retention fund after many years. This program helps neighborhoods handle basic services directly. City officials want to restart the fund because many everyday repairs face delays due to paperwork requirements. Local citizens recently filed a lawsuit against the council because it failed to give neighborhoods their required 25 percent share of collected property taxes. The ward retention money supports community projects that local people need, but city budgets often ignore. During Thursday's full council meeting, Ward 41 representative Kudzai Kadzombe explained her personal experience with the missing funds. She mentioned that since 2019, the city never provided any retention money for...
