8K Gaming Madness Hits 120Hz Milestone

The 8K group showed off something special at a recent broadcast show in Las Vegas. They displayed games running at 8K resolution with 120 frames per second through HDMI 2.1 cables. This worked because they used special compression technology to push more data through. AMD provided all the computer parts for this demonstration. The team played Horizon Forbidden West, a game known for looking great even at high settings.

Samsung brought a modified 65-inch 8K television from Korea just for this event. The TV had gaming features like automatic low lag mode and variable refresh rates to make gameplay smooth. Inside the computer sat an AMD Ryzen processor paired with their Radeon graphics card. The system actually rendered the game at 5K resolution first. It used AI upscaling technology to create the final 8K picture sent to the screen.

Most people still find 8K gaming excessive since many games struggle even at lower resolutions. New graphics cards make it more possible with their frame generation technologies. One game even ran at 16K resolution on the newest high-end card. Better HDMI cables coming later this year will help 8K screens become more common. However, most people might need to wait for future graphics cards before 8K gaming becomes widely available.
