Amanokrom ofie market draws big crowds

Hundreds showed up at Amanokrom Community Centre Park last Saturday morning. The crowd packed into the Eastern Region's Akuapem North Constituency for the first-ever "Ofie Market." Local MP Samuel Kwabena Awuku transformed the quiet community space into a lively marketplace buzzing with farmers, vendors, and shoppers from near and far.

The March 29, 2025, market day tackled big farm problems head-on. Farmers finally sold fresh organic food at fair prices without middlemen taking cuts. Awuku created this market back during his 2024 election campaign when he heard about massive food spoilage issues. He promised farmers they'd have direct access to buyers, cutting waste and boosting profits.

This market brings together over 500 farmers and 300 market queens every last Saturday of each month. People drive all the way from Accra just to buy fresh veggies, fruits, and local staples. Prices stay competitive as vendors eagerly welcome the steady stream of customers. The community chief and elders greeted Awuku warmly when he came to see his project succeed.

The market runs from 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. and offers added benefits beyond shopping. Kids play in a special playground area as parents browse farm goods. Food stands and entertainment create a festival atmosphere throughout the day. The Municipal Directorate of Food and Agriculture backs this community fix for farming challenges. Local growers expressed thanks to their MP for this chance to earn fair pay for their hard work.
