AMD Scoops ZT Systems for Cloud AI Edge

AMD has finished buying ZT Systems, which makes AI and computer gear for big tech companies. This deal lets AMD create better AI products by combining their CPUs, GPUs, network chips, ROCm software, and rack systems. The purchase speeds up how fast AMD can build and set up AI systems for cloud companies. AMD believes this deal will make money by late 2025 under non-GAAP rules.

The talented design teams from ZT Systems have moved to the AMD Data Center Solutions group under Forrest Norrod. AMD plans to find partners who want to buy ZT Systems' American factory business next year. This factory makes data center equipment at top quality levels. The company has already started talking with several possible buyers.

Forrest Norrod explained that cutting down design and setup time for AI systems gives customers a big edge. He called buying ZT Systems a major step in AMD's plan to deliver the best AI training solutions. These solutions will match each customer's needs, deploy quickly at a large scale, and use AMD's open systems approach. This approach combines free software, standard networking, and ZT Systems's design skills.

Frank Zhang, who started ZT Systems, joins AMD as senior vice president of ZT Manufacturing. He reports to Forrest Norrod and will help sell off the manufacturing part of the business. Doug Huang, former ZT Systems President, becomes senior vice president of Data Center Platform Engineering. He also reports to Norrod and will lead design teams working with AMD's Data Center Solutions and AI groups to speed up new AI products.
