Apple foldable iPad debut may come sooner than expected

Apple plans to launch an 18.8-inch foldable iPad earlier than expected. Reports suggest it might arrive with the foldable iPhone near the end of next year. Mass production should start during late 2026, pointing to a release shortly after.

The devices recently entered the New Product Introduction stage at Foxconn, meaning they're taking real shape. The exact launch date depends on production timing—possibly late 2026 or early 2027. Some experts disagree about the details. Mark Gurman believes a 20-inch foldable iPad will be released in 2028, which might be a different product altogether. Display expert Ross Young expects Apple's foldable market entry between 2026 and 2027.

Nobody knows for sure if this device will be an iPad or a Mac. One analyst claims it'll be a hybrid running macOS with touch controls. Ming-Chi Kuo calls it a MacBook, but Gurman says it's an iPad. The operating system choice will determine its final classification. More details about Apple's foldable iPad should emerge soon.
