Apple iPhone 18 Packs Six Channel 12GB RAM

Apple plans to use six-channel memory for iPhone 18 models next year. This change aims to boost performance for tasks like AI use, gaming, and running many apps at once. The company will keep the older LPDDR5X RAM standard instead of the newer options.

Adding more channels helps transfer data faster between memory and its controller. The rumor from Digital Chat Station says performance will improve a lot, but doesn't mention how this affects battery life. Apple often adopts new tech standards later than competitors. This delay explains why iPhone 18 will use LPDDR5X RAM instead of LPDDR6 memory that will work with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2.

Ming-Chi Kuo said memory supply issues might limit 12GB RAM to just three iPhone 17 models this year. All iPhone 18 models should come with 12GB of RAM as standard next year. Many users might feel disappointed about an increase in RAM amount. iOS runs efficiently with less memory than other systems. This efficiency means Apple phones need less RAM to perform well.
