Apple put an iPhone Air battery in its new MagSafe Pack

Apple addressed the iPhone Air's battery limitations through a specialized MagSafe accessory. iFixit's disassembly revealed the battery pack contains a 12.26 Wh cell measuring 2.72mm thick. The company employed identical battery technology found within the iPhone Air itself for this external power source.

Wireless energy transfer prevents complete device charging, limiting capacity from zero to 65 percent. Energy dissipates during the charging process, creating efficiency losses. The accessory features plastic construction rather than metal reinforcement used in smartphones. Apple increased thickness beyond the iPhone Air's 5.6mm profile to ensure proper functionality.

The teardown demonstrates Apple's resourceful approach to component reuse. Users can minimize wireless charging inefficiencies by connecting USB-C cables directly. The $99 accessory provides supplemental power without transforming the device into a multi-day solution. This battery pack serves as temporary relief for users requiring additional charge capacity.
