Ashanti South Police kill two robbers on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway

A deadly shootout on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway just cracked open an armed-robbery ring and an illegal arms pipeline in Ghana's Ashanti Region.

Police ambush takes down two suspects
  • Officers intercepted four armed men in a highway bush on March 10.
  • Suspects fired first, and police returned fatal shots.
  • Two robbers died while two others reportedly escaped.
  • An AK-47 and a pump-action gun were seized on-site.
Dead suspects linked to a regional crime spree
  • David Aheto, 42, from Sogakope, was pronounced dead at the Bekwai Hospital.
  • Illiasu Bawa, 32, hailed from Banda Nkwanta in the Savannah Region.
  • Investigations tied them to robberies across multiple towns.
  • Obuasi, Dunkwa, Wasa Akropong, and Asin Fosu were all hit.
Arms-supply network traced back to Asawase
  • Alhaji Abdalah allegedly sold the AK-47 for GH₵45,000.
  • Abdalah also reportedly supplied a G3 rifle and a pistol.
  • Buyer Samuel Agyei is already on remand at Wasa Akropong.
  • Kumasi's Asawase area is the suspected supply hub.
Follow-up raid on March 11 netted more arrests
  • Aminu Iddrisu led police to weapons stashed in a sheep pen.
  • An AK-47 and a Bruni pistol were recovered in Kumasi.
  • Daniel Debrah, 24, got arrested alongside Iddrisu.
  • A red Toyota Corolla was seized as suspected robbery proceeds.
Four suspects remain in custody during the investigation
  • Abdalah Alhassan and Jemini Usman are both detained.
  • Iddrisu and Debrah are cooperating with ongoing inquiries.
  • Mallam Aminu and other members remain at large.
  • Police vowed zero tolerance for armed robbery and arms trading.
