Bank steps in as Malawi kids wait for life-changing care

First Capital Bank has committed 70 million kwacha to help fund surgical procedures for 206 disabled children at Beit-Cure Children's Hospital in Malawi. The contribution came during a fundraising dinner held on Saturday in Blantyre under the theme Healing Journeys: Bringing the Gap of Hope. Twikale Chirwa, who leads marketing and communications at the bank, said supporting vulnerable populations represents a core institutional value and complements government health services. Bank founder Hitesh Anadkat contributed an additional 80 million kwacha along with his wife, Meeta Anadkat, and partner Rasik Kantaria.

Hospital Executive Director Rhoda Jura Kriek explained that medical teams perform orthopedic and plastic surgeries at no cost to restore movement and dignity. The facility has completed more than 30,000 operations since opening. Kriek noted that disabled children often experience discrimination and anxiety, but stressed that financial constraints will not prevent treatment.

Vice President Jane Ansah attended the event and encouraged continued donor engagement. Organizers reported collecting 275 million kwacha toward a 310 million kwacha goal, leaving a 32 million kwacha funding gap. The hospital aims to provide care for all patients regardless of their ability to pay.
