A political advisor in Manicaland province hosted a different kind of Unity Day event. Paul Tungwarara, a presidential investment advisor, dished out a bunch of cash and goods. He gave twenty-five thousand dollars to local lawmakers from three areas, Mutasa North, Mutasa Central, and Mutasa South. He said the money was from President Mnangagwa for development projects. Tungwarara told the crowd the cash should bring people together, not start fights within the party. He warned leaders not to misuse it.
The event also involved handing out a thousand bicycles to local party organizers in the Mutasa district. He gave ten thousand dollars to two sick people for surgeries. He promised a vehicle for a blind war veteran named Joel Mureremba for party business. He also pledged three thousand holiday gift baskets for supporters who stood in the rain at the Mutasa DC grounds. Those people will get fertilizer from the president, too.
Tungwarara complained about past handouts being stolen by higher-ups. He said a new committee would watch how this money gets spent. He threatened serious action against anyone who could not explain where the funds went.
