A bitter feud has erupted over a crumbling soap factory that sits abandoned in Majaya Village under Chief Marozva. The facility launched back in 2000 as a women's empowerment scheme but shut down after just a few years of operation. Factory chairperson Miriro Munhanga claims the village head has locked out former members who want to restart production. Village head Kumbirai Majaya Chisi handed over the property to another person who actually uses the land productively. The original project received funding from Gladmore Charamba as a community initiative honoring his deceased mother.
Chisi approached Charamba about continuing the venture and offered alternative land for the soap making operation. The original funder showed little interest and only wanted to salvage roofing materials from the deteriorating building. Chisi maintains he never blocks development projects but refuses to let valuable village resources sit idle. Former soap makers argue they deserve access to the facility they helped establish decades ago. The dispute reflects deeper tensions about who controls community assets in the rural area.
The soap factory controversy connects to a larger power struggle between Chisi and his nephew Jevas Ruvanda over village leadership. Ruvanda once ruled the area while Chisi remained underage but later refused to step aside. Multiple court battles followed with the High Court ultimately backing Chisi's authority over the territory. Ruvanda served jail time for defying court orders yet continues challenging the legal verdict. Lawyer Collen Maboke confirms the case remains active since Ruvanda ignores judicial rulings.
