Cash Splash As Wheat Farmers Rake In Payout

The Grain Marketing Board paid wheat farmers over ZiG$282 million for their crop deliveries after Treasury released another ZiG$52.1 million. Officials also settled the complete US$33 million debt that farmers were owed from previous seasons. The payments aim to strengthen the wheat industry and help Zimbabwe produce more food locally. The money arrives as the country starts its important winter planting season. Government leaders want to grow more wheat at home instead of buying from other countries.

GMB Chief Executive Edison Badarai explained how different government departments worked together to make the payments happen. He thanked the parent ministry and Treasury for supporting the grain board operations. Badarai also praised farmers who continue working with GMB to ensure the nation has enough food. The payments show the government wants to help farmers succeed during the growing season. Officials hope these actions will encourage more wheat production across Zimbabwe.

Agricultural leaders set a goal to plant 120,000 hectares of wheat during the current season. They expect farmers to harvest 600,000 metric tonnes from these planted areas. The wheat program forms part of Zimbabwe's larger plan to improve farming productivity. Government officials want to pay farmers faster and boost national food security. Expanded wheat growing helps the country rely less on expensive imported grain.
