China eyes solar-powered fisheries investment in Gwadar as blue economy grows

Chinese business leaders explored solar energy projects for Pakistan's fisheries sector during Wednesday meetings in Islamabad. The All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce delegation examined renewable power solutions for aquaculture facilities across the nation. Five representatives led by Yi Jiang discussed partnerships with Federal Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor frameworks. The initiative targets clean energy implementation at fishing operations while attracting foreign investment to strategic coastal areas.

Pakistan's maritime economy generated one billion dollars during fiscal year 2023-24, representing 0.4 percent of national output. Seafood exports to China reached 125 million dollars last year, demonstrating expanding commercial relationships between both countries. Chaudhry promoted Gwadar port development opportunities to Chinese investors, highlighting operational cold storage capabilities of 2,000 tons in the South Free Zone. Both delegations committed to advancing regional connectivity through sustainable coastal resource management and enhanced trade logistics systems.
