China's Shi Yuqi and South Korea's An Se-young claim BWF Japan Open titles

China's Shi Yuqi captured the men's singles championship at the BWF Japan Open badminton tournament on Sunday. The Chinese player defeated defending champion Alex Lanier from France after taking control during a tied first game at 17-17. Shi won the opening set and completed his victory with a 21-15 second-set triumph. The tournament offered $950,000 in prize money at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. His health problems related to stomach issues had affected his performance throughout the season.

South Korean Olympic champion An Se-young dominated the women's singles final against China's Wang Zhiyi. She required only 42 minutes to secure victory with scores of 21-12 and 21-10. This marked her sixth title from seven BWF World Tour events this year. An Se-young reached the final by defeating Japan's Riko Gunji on Saturday. Wang Zhiyi advanced by beating home player Akane Yamaguchi.

China achieved the highest medal count across all categories. Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning retained their women's doubles crown by defeating Malaysian opponents. Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin claimed mixed doubles gold after a three-set battle against Thai competitors. South Korean pair Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae earned the men's doubles title. Malaysia provided strong competition throughout multiple championship matches.
