Club World Cup match suspended due to weather at MetLife Stadium

Weather stopped a Club World Cup match between Palmeiras and Al Ahly on Thursday night. The game ended after one hour when storms threatened MetLife Stadium. Referee Anthony Taylor sent both teams off the field with Brazil's Palmeiras ahead 2-0. Stadium workers told fans to leave their seats and go inside for safety. Many people moved slowly despite warnings about dangerous weather conditions.

This marks the second weather delay at the tournament. Tuesday's game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan faced a 65-minute lightning delay in Orlando. Stadium announcements kept warning about severe weather approaching the area. Officials made the right call to protect players and spectators from harm. Weather continues to challenge outdoor sporting events across different venues.

The Egyptian and Brazilian teams will resume their Group A battle later. Al Ahly trails by two goals when play restarts at MetLife Stadium. South Korean and South African teams already dealt with similar weather problems earlier this week. Tournament organizers must plan around unpredictable storm patterns. Player safety remains the top concern for match officials.
