Court Smacks Down Ofori Atta Bid to Halt Wanted Notice

A court refused to help former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta hide from corruption investigators. The Human Rights Court turned down his request to remove his name from wanted person lists. Ofori-Atta asked judges to force the Office of the Special Prosecutor to delete his photo and personal details from official websites. His lawyers claimed the public listings damaged his reputation and violated fair treatment rules. The former minister wanted courts to stop future wanted notices without judicial approval.

Justice Amoako rejected the case Wednesday after reviewing legal requirements for court orders. The judge said Ofori-Atta failed to prove he deserved special protection from normal investigation procedures. Courts can award money damages later if investigators acted wrongly against the former minister. The ruling means prosecutors can continue displaying his information on wanted person platforms. Legal experts say the decision shows courts will not interfere with active corruption investigations.

The Special Prosecutor continues examining Ofori-Atta for possible financial crimes during his time as Finance Minister. His legal team filed the blocking request on March 27 but could not convince judges to grant emergency protection. The former minister faces ongoing scrutiny over government spending decisions and contract awards. Prosecutors maintain their right to publish wanted notices as part of standard investigation procedures.
