Two passengers have initiated legal action against Carnival Cruise Line following alleged bed bug encounters during a February voyage aboard the Carnival Horizon. Catherine Shockley and William Maycock claim they discovered irritating red welts on their skin on February 17, with the markings expanding to multiple body areas by the following morning.
Shockley reportedly found living insects at various developmental stages, droppings, and eggs throughout their accommodation after conducting a room inspection. The pair documented more than 30 bite marks through photographs and alerted ship personnel, but assert that staff members took no remedial measures.
The legal filing contends the cruise operator demonstrated negligence by inadequately examining and servicing the cabin, resulting in physical injuries, medical expenses, psychological harm, sleep disruption, property damage, and financial losses. Carnival representatives declined to address the pending litigation but confirmed the company maintains rigorous sanitation protocols and conducts weekly room evaluations.
