Daniel Dube jolts Malawi MEC with presidential bid in Lilongwe

Malawi Electoral Commission officials counted another presidential hopeful after Daniel Dube grabbed nomination papers for the National Patriotic Party. The newcomer pushed the total collection tally to seventeen candidates eyeing the top job. Commission bosses recorded his paperwork pickup right before closing time on July 11.

Election chiefs have planned a massive campaign kickoff event at Bingu International Conference Centre next Monday. Dozens of radio stations and television networks will beam the launch ceremony live across the country. Citizens can tune into everything from MBC TV to community radio outlets for complete coverage.

Candidate vetting runs from July 16 through July 23 for anyone wanting early paper checks. Presidential contenders must hand over their documents at MEC headquarters while parliamentary hopefuls visit constituency offices. The formal submission window opens July 24 and slams shut on July 30.

Commission workers will keep their doors open for fee payments and paper collection right up until the final deadline. Weekend warriors and holiday seekers will find locked offices during those periods. The growing candidate roster includes familiar political heavyweights like Lazarus Chakwera and Arthur Peter Mutharika alongside fresh faces.

Electoral officials reminded everyone that presidential wannabes face different rules than local candidates during the submission process. The Bingu centre will host presidential paper presentations while constituency offices handle the rest. Malawi voters will choose from an increasingly crowded field when election day arrives.
