David Okwere defeats Ikojo to win the Bukedea NRM flag in a tight parliamentary primary

David Beecham Okwere secured the National Resistance Movement candidacy for the Bukedea Constituency after defeating former parliamentarian John Bosco Ikojo in competitive primary elections. Charles Otai, the district returning officer, announced Okwere's victory with 13,651 votes against Ikojo's 13,064 ballots from 32,385 valid votes cast. George Stephen Ekuma received 3,540 votes while Solomon Alfred Isalameje Obwokor earned 2,130 votes in the contest. Officials declared the results at 10:50 PM on July 17, 2025. The lawyer and development worker had spent two years building community support before the elections.

Okwere assisted women's savings cooperatives, delivered laptops to educational institutions, and facilitated the construction of more than 380 water boreholes across rural areas. His political platform emphasized improved public services, better rural infrastructure, and enhanced educational support systems. Ikojo, an economist who previously represented the constituency from 2011 to 2021, attempted a political comeback after four years away from office. He formerly led the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy and supervised government borrowing policies. The close margin demonstrates Ikojo maintains considerable constituency backing despite his defeat.
