Dubai airport still rules the skies

Dubai International Airport remains the top international airport worldwide for 2024. Travelers passing through reached 92.3 million, growing 6.1 percent from last year. London Heathrow came second, with Seoul Incheon taking third place. Singapore ranked fourth, followed by Amsterdam, completing the top five busiest airports for international travel.

People took more flights globally last year, with passenger numbers increasing 9 percent to about 9.5 billion. This exceeds pre-pandemic travel levels from 2019 by 3.8 percent. The airport industry group ACI represents over 2,100 airports across 170 countries worldwide. They predict nearly 10 billion people will fly this year, but expect slower growth rates ahead. Economic problems, world conflicts, and airline limits may affect future air travel patterns.

When counting both domestic and international flights, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport remains the busiest overall with 108.1 million passengers. Dubai holds second place globally when all flights are counted. Dallas-Fort Worth takes the third position for total passenger traffic. For cargo handling, Hong Kong International Airport leads with 4.9 million metric tons processed. Shanghai moved up to second place as Memphis dropped to third in freight transport.
