Education Official Steps Down After Age Probe Heats Up

Education Director Ismael Mulindwa suddenly quit his job after a stern order from Permanent Secretary Dr Kedrace Turyagyenda demanding that he leave office on March 31. He handed everything over to the Basic Education Commissioner, Dr Cleophus Mugenyi. The Inspectorate of Government has been investigating Mulindwa for lying about his age to stay employed past 60, the official retirement age. Retired teacher Abdallah Kimeze complained about this misconduct last September, sending letters to several officials, including Education Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni. Kimeze accused Mulindwa of serious dishonesty regarding his records.

Kimeze claims Mulindwa was actually born in 1962 but falsely listed 1969 as his birth year on official documents. This would mean Mulindwa supposedly started working at just 17 years old back in 1987, which Kimeze argues makes no sense given his education timeline. Mulindwa previously dismissed these accusations as complete lies during an October interview with The Observer newspaper. An anonymous ministry insider revealed that Education Minister Museveni herself pushed for Mulindwa's exit to prevent further scandal. Officials remain tight-lipped about whether investigations will continue after his departure - government spokesperson Munira Ali requested additional time before making any statements.
