Ekurhuleni reinstates Thepa as EMPD spokesperson

Ekurhuleni authorities have restored Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa to her position as police department spokesperson after she testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. City Manager Kagiso Michael Lerutla stated the administrative decision aims to strengthen communication protocols and align departmental operations with governance frameworks while maintaining cooperation with the independent investigation.

Thepa described threatening incidents and a violent assault during her emotional appearance before commissioners, linking the harassment to her involvement in investigations, including allegations against suspended acting chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi. She characterized accusations against her as unfounded attempts at intimidation.

Officials emphasized that the personnel action does not interfere with ongoing commission proceedings or labor matters. The city views her return as part of broader institutional reforms designed to enhance transparency and public confidence in metropolitan law enforcement services.
