Enugu police caught seven people during gun raids last week. Officers grabbed a 39-year-old man who fixes illegal weapons and six other suspects. Police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe told reporters about these arrests on Sunday. Commissioner Mamman Giwa ordered these smart crime-fighting missions around the state. The raids happened from June 15 through June 21 and brought back lots of dangerous items.
Police found seven guns, one used bullet shell, and two live bullets during their searches. Anti-crime squad members arrested a 25-year-old man at 9th Mile area. Officers took a sawed-off shotgun and one spent shell from him. Three other suspects had already told police they belonged to the Supreme Vikings gang. These gang members said they used the weapon for different crimes around town.
Officers made another arrest on June 17 when they caught a 22-year-old suspect. The gun repair man had already told police about this person during questioning. Police linked both men to armed robbery cases and gang activity. The operations were part of ongoing efforts to stop violent crime.
