Ethanol Booze Added to Uganda Fuel Drivers Doing Shots

Uganda began mixing ethanol with regular gasoline at fuel stations across the country. Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa said the Uganda National Oil Company will run the new program. The government wants cleaner fuel that costs less money for drivers. Officials believe the mixture will help protect the environment from harmful gases. Leaders hope this change will make Uganda less dependent on foreign oil imports.

The government cut taxes on ethanol production from five percent down to zero. Tax breaks will grow larger over the next few years as more companies join the program. Nankabirwa explained that cheaper ethanol means lower prices at the pump for regular customers. The new fuel blend should burn much cleaner than pure gasoline products. Drivers will notice better engine performance and fewer toxic fumes coming from their cars.

Ethanol comes from local crops like sugarcane and corn that farmers already grow. Many countries around the world already use similar fuel mixtures at their gas stations. Brazil and America have used ethanol blends for many years with great success. The cleaner burning fuel produces fewer greenhouse gases that damage the atmosphere. Uganda plans to ramp up ethanol production as the nation prepares for major oil discoveries.
