EU Treads Carefully as Digital Tax Threatens Trade Tensions

Trade fights between Europe and America keep changing fast. People worry about future problems despite the 90-day pause and lower taxes on European goods. The European Commission plans to fight back if talks fail, maybe taxing online ads. Germany wants everyone to move carefully regarding these plans. German finance leader Jörg Kukies explained that some products can easily come from different places, but others cannot.

France might target internet companies through taxes, according to finance chief Eric Lombard, who said everything remains possible. Ireland and Luxembourg hate this idea because many American tech firms operate there. The UK considers cutting digital taxes, hoping America will reduce import fees. Other countries stay quiet, waiting for official European proposals before speaking up. Elon Musk certainly knows about European rules since his company X faces investigations about content problems.

President Trump called his tariff pause "short," and he has already cut European fees from 20% to 10%. Any European action might make these go back up or even reach 125%, like Chinese products face. German leaders and other Europeans want to avoid a complete trade war because it hurts local companies and stock markets worldwide. The situation affects businesses dealing between continents during uncertain times.
