Ex-student to hold vigil at Chief Justice office in Blantyre

Humble Bondo, a former student representative at the University of Malawi, plans to start a peaceful protest at the Chief Justice's offices in Blantyre. He wants to push authorities to speed up a decision on his case after being suspended from university in June 2024 for sexual harassment.

Bondo was close to finishing his Bachelor's degree in Public Administration when the university's disciplinary committee suspended him. He took his case to the High Court of Malawi, claiming the original judgment was unfair and biased. He argues that a group with a radical feminist agenda pushed for his suspension without proper consideration.

Nine months have passed since Bondo filed for a judicial review, and he feels frustrated by the court's delay. He believes the waiting has caused him significant personal pain and stopped him from moving forward with his life and career. The university is still holding his final semester results, which he completed before the suspension.

Bondo describes the delay as agonizing, saying each month feels heavier than the last. He remains waiting for a ruling from Judge Zione Ntaba and feels his chance to work, grow, and start his future has been stolen. As a result, he has decided to protest directly at the Chief Justice's office to demand a quick resolution to his case.
