Streets accumulate garbage while local authorities lack resources and technology for effective disposal programs.

Development expert Didymus Dewa emphasized financial support for municipalities alongside capacity-building initiatives. Smart technology applications could optimize collection routes and monitor bin levels through GPS tracking and sensor systems. Bulawayo generates diverse waste streams from households that comprise up to 80 percent of municipal refuse, according to recent statistics. Urban Planning specialist Chipo Chaora promotes circular economy models that integrate recycling with governance reforms. Public health advocate Leave-it Ncube supports color-coded sorting systems using designated containers for different waste categories.
