Falana says tax laws can’t take effect amid legitimacy row

A prominent lawyer just threw a major legal wrench into the new tax plans. Human rights attorney Femi Falana stated the recently passed tax laws cannot be implemented due to unresolved controversies about illegitimate provisions allegedly inserted into the text. He argued the federal government should have used the final days of last year to resolve these disputes and publish clean copies before the new year deadline.

Falana warned that pushing forward with enforcement would invite legal challenges from prepared interest groups, putting the administration in a difficult position. His comments directly contradict the President's recent declaration that there would be no delay to the January first start date. The senior advocate's core point is that legitimacy questions must be settled before any tax law can properly take effect, creating a standoff between the government's timeline and procedural legality.
