Enugu State Police have shut down claims about herdsmen taking over homes and schools in Eha-Amufu. The police labeled these stories completely false and misleading. SP Daniel Ndukwe made clear on Tuesday that no area in Eha-Amufu faces any siege situation. He explained that farmers use temporary structures in those settlements, not permanent houses as reported.
The police spokesperson pointed out that past conflicts between farmers and herders happened years ago, in 2021 and 2022. Peace has returned through joint security actions since then. Governor Dr Peter Mbah has strengthened safety measures throughout the region with multiple improvements. These include sending 150 military personnel to the area and building security barracks for protection.
The government has almost finished constructing a 21.7km road connecting Agape-Agu Mgbuji-Ogbete farm settlements. Police accused certain media of using old pictures from different places to trick people. They specifically mentioned photos from Amnesty International showing burned houses from another state's February 4, 2025, attack that were wrongly presented as having happened in Eha-Amufu.
Police Commissioner Mamman Bitrus Giwa asked everyone to ignore these false reports completely. He promised the police would remain committed to keeping Enugu State safe and peaceful. Officers encouraged residents to report any genuine security issues through proper channels. They asked for continued cooperation between citizens and law enforcement teams across the state.
