Farewell Fearless Fighter Kangueehi Dies at 81

Kuzeeko Kangueehi died on May 15 at the age of 81 after leading the Swanu party for many years. McHenry Venaani remembered meeting Kangueehi at the gym and sauna with Andimba Toivo ya Toivo. The three men talked about politics and daily events during their visits together. Venaani called Kangueehi a father figure who acted like a dignified gentleman toward everyone. Kairaane taught Kangueehi English before becoming his wife and life partner.

Kangueehi fought for economic freedom during Namibia's liberation struggle against apartheid rule. Swanu president Evilastus Kaaronda praised him as a hero and veteran leader. The political leader helped organize military support for armed resistance against the government. Dudu Murorua said Kangueehi worked to help all Namibians during the independence fight. He brought together the Damara Council under Chief Kuaima Riruako.

Kangueehi finished Standard 6 at Rio Quelle Primary School and later attended Augustineum High School. He studied at the University of the North but left due to sickness before returning home. Radio work at NBC came before he completed teacher training and graduated with his diploma. Teaching jobs at Augustineum and Martin Luther High School lasted until 1984. Fire department work in Windhoek City continued until his retirement.

Memorial services are this weekend, and burial will take place Sunday at Aminuis. Kangueehi leaves behind his wife and eight children, who will miss him. Twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren survive the former political leader. Family members born at the Kundapura farm will gather to honor his memory. His farming work at a resettlement location continued after he left city employment.
