Omaheke Police Report Less Crime Over Holidays.
The holidays were safer in Namibia's Omaheke region this year. The police saw less crime than before. There were fewer robberies, break-ins, and car thefts.
Fiina Sakajengenga works for the police. She said they worked hard to keep people safe. More officers patrolled busy areas like malls and bars in Gobabis, where many tourists visit for the holidays.
The police also watched the roads closely. During this time, many people drove between cities and villages. The police set up roadblocks to check for drunk or speeding drivers and ensured cars were safe to drive.
Sadly, four crashes occurred, and one person died. However, the police tried to prevent accidents by talking to the community about road safety.
The police also caught five people stealing livestock near Omitara. They thanked the public for being careful and helpful over the holidays.
Ms. Sakajengenga said the police will keep working to make Omaheke safer for everyone who lives there.
