Foxconn scrambles to move iPhone production to India

China blocks Foxconn from sending staff and equipment to India as the company tries to move iPhone production away from Chinese factories. Since 2019, Foxconn has made iPhones in India for local markets, but recent problems have emerged. Chinese authorities prevent Chinese workers from traveling to India to train local employees, forcing Foxconn to send Taiwanese staff who might lack complete knowledge of production processes.

The situation worsens as China also stops shipments of manufacturing equipment headed for India. Taiwanese media report this affects multiple Taiwanese companies relocating to India, though transfers to Southeast Asian nations face no similar restrictions. Indian manufacturers cannot produce the necessary equipment locally, which effectively keeps production tied to China.

Foxconn attempts to work around these obstacles by shipping partially assembled phones and components to India for final assembly. The strategy helps maintain some Indian production despite these limitations. These reports remain unconfirmed rumors from Taiwanese news sources. The actions suggest China intends to retain manufacturing operations within its borders as long as possible.
