French AI Chip Firm Nabs 46M to Topple Nvidia

VSORA, a French artificial intelligence chip innovator, secured $46 million in new funding. The investment round attracted support from Otium, a French family office, Omnes Capital, Adélie Capital, and the European Innovation Council Fund.

The company aims to revolutionize AI chip technology with its Jotunn8 (J8) chip. Designed for generative AI, autonomous driving, and edge computing, the chip promises superior performance compared to existing solutions. VSORA plans to launch the silicon version of its chip in 2025.

VSORA's technology delivers three times the performance of current AI chips while consuming half the power. The chip offers 3,200 TeraFLOPS of computing power, targeting inference processing for various applications. The company positions itself as a unique European alternative to global chip manufacturers.

Founder and CEO Khaled Maalej highlighted the funding as a crucial step toward establishing European technological sovereignty in AI computing. Investors see VSORA as a promising opportunity to challenge dominant players in the global AI chip market.

The AI inference market is expected to grow significantly, reaching $255 billion by 2030. VSORA's innovative approach focuses on reducing deployment costs and improving energy efficiency for large-scale AI applications.
