Gambia Bags China Free Water Rice and Sports Blitz

The Gambian government signed four agreements with leaders from China's Heilongjiang Province at the State House in Banjul. President Adama Barrow watched as officials put pen to paper on deals meant to build stronger ties between the two regions. These agreements represent a key step forward in efforts to create meaningful partnerships for national growth. Government officials say the deals will help several areas of development across the country.

One agreement focuses on building new water systems and sports facilities to improve public resources. Another provides free eye surgeries for people with cataracts as part of expanded healthcare services. A third agreement creates programs for worker training and skill sharing between the countries. The fourth deal brings non-modified rice seeds to boost farm output and food security in The Gambia.

Chinese company Longjian also signed separate contracts with Gambian groups. These cover plans to build a bridge in Kotu, maintain roads, support seed production, and fix land for growing rice. After the signing event, President Barrow hosted a dinner for the visiting Chinese group. Officials from both sides expressed hope that these partnerships will help The Gambia reach its development goals.
