Google Pay shakes up cashless payments in Lebanon and Oman

Google has rolled out its digital payment service to Lebanon and Oman, giving Android users a new way to pay with their phones. The tech giant announced that people can make secure purchases at stores, through apps, and online using the Google Pay feature. Users simply add their credit or debit cards to the Google Wallet app on their Android devices. The service works anywhere contactless payments are accepted, making shopping easier for millions of people. Google promises multiple layers of security protect every transaction through special virtual card numbers.

People in Oman can use Google Pay for online shopping and mobile app purchases, but they cannot send money to friends or pay for certain services yet. Sohar International Bank became the first bank in the country to offer Google Pay to its customers. The bank allows international debit, credit, and prepaid cardholders to make contactless payments using their Android phones. Customers need Android version 9 or higher to use the service. Apple Pay launched in Oman last year, joining Samsung Pay which arrived in April.

Digital payments are growing fast in Oman thanks to the Central Bank pushing for a cashless society. The government wants people to use mobile wallets, QR codes, and card tokens instead of cash. Many local banks have started offering these smartphone payment options to their customers. The move supports Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on digital transformation and modern economic growth. These payment platforms let people use their phones and smartwatches to pay for purchases easily.
