Govt Backs Old Gwanda Road Project for Rural Growth

The national administration has pledged complete backing for the construction of Old Gwanda Road, which officials believe will boost rural manufacturing and financial development throughout Matabeleland South. Vice-President Kembo Mohadi attended a traditional event in Umzingwane District yesterday where he stated the administration fully endorses initiatives designed to enhance national transportation networks. Zwane Enterprises leads this project under a Build, Operate, and Transfer framework, with construction expected to begin shortly. The ceremony featured traditional thanksgiving rituals following three days of ancestral observances conducted by spirit mediums, including pouring traditional brew from a calabash to receive ancestral blessings.

Construction activities will commence after President Mnangagwa conducts a ground-breaking ceremony planned for next month. The Vice President described how this project demonstrates the government's capability to collaborate effectively with businesses for infrastructure improvement. He noted that this partnership continues numerous transformative projects implemented across the country by the Second Republic. Mohadi emphasized that the modern road represents an important achievement for Matabeleland South Province that promises social and economic advancement for residents and the entire nation.

The Second Republic expects businesses operating within communities to engage actively with local populations, understanding their requirements and concerns, according to Vice-President Mohadi. He stressed that the road project should emphasize community participation during construction plus create opportunities for related industries. Mohadi highlighted the importance of the traditional ceremony as demonstrating the value of preserving cultural heritage. He expressed gratitude toward ancestors who prepared the way for road construction and noted how cultural practices connect people to their heritage.

Dr. Evelyn Ndlovu, Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, explained that the project supports Vision 2030 and brings necessary development to the province. She emphasized the road's crucial function connecting Bulawayo, a major market serving the Matabeleland region. Dr. Ndlovu described the gathering as establishing foundations for progress, unity, and prosperity. She praised Zwane Enterprises for investing resources and faith in the province. The road will create new jobs, improve market access and enhance service delivery as steps toward achieving an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

Engineer Bekithemba Mbambo, Chief Executive Officer of Zwane Enterprise, thanked community members and traditional leadership for accepting the project. He recognized the significance of traditional ceremonies providing necessary blessing and approval. Mbambo expressed appreciation to various stakeholders and government officials supporting the initiative. Chief Mathe, through his constituency aide Mr. Cephas Moyo, praised Zwane Enterprises for respecting traditional processes integral to community cultural beliefs. Brigadier-General Levi Mayihlome, Umzingwane Constituency Member of Parliament, stated six constituencies will directly benefit from the road, which, upon completion, will bring development to the area.
