Govt should boost school infrastructure for all kids

People at the National Education Forum asked the government to spend more money on basic school buildings to help all kids go to school. They want new ways to pay for these buildings that would make rural schools just as good as city schools. Every child should be able to join a complete basic school no matter where they live in Ghana.

Professor George K.T. Oduro shared these ideas when he read a statement after the Forum ended Thursday. The meeting, which took place from February 19 through March 13, 2025, focused on improving education for future needs. During town meetings across the country, different groups discussed school buildings, good teaching, rules, money matters, research, and information tracking.

Churches, student groups, community leaders, and education charities joined these talks. The statement pointed out big problems between rural and city schools that stop many kids from learning well. They pushed the government to directly fix the gap between country schools and city schools through planned spending. They want education money split fairly, with most going to basic schools since they form the foundation of learning.

The group suggested better housing and extra pay for teachers who work where needed. Higher salaries, better benefits, and school money for teachers made their list of improvements. They asked the government to make clear rules about how parent groups, religious organizations, and others can help run schools better. The Forum also urged fast action to build more high schools and stop the system where students attend school in shifts. About 5,000 people from all parts of Ghana participated, sending over 2,000 suggestions, including research from 20,000 survey answers.
